"An inverted torsion pendulum for measuring the internal friction and dynamic shear modulus of glass fibers over an extended temperature range has been constructed and calibrated. The calibration consists of the determination of the moment of inertia. Extraneous damping losses were investigated and primary sources were found to be (1) the suspension thread, (2) the method of securing the fiber and (3) air damping.
