- Die bildende Kunst bei Theodor Fontane ist eine bis jetzt lediglich partiell erforschte Dimension seines Œuvre. Diese Lücke schließt nun die erste umfassende, interdisziplinär ausgerichtete Monographie zu Fontanes kunstkritischen Schriften. Alle zugänglichen Texte des kunstkritischen Werks Fontanes sind katalogisiert, charakterisiert und selektiert. Die Analyse stützt sich auf die publizistischen Kunstkritiken und zieht Privatschriften wie Briefe, Tagebücher und Notizbücher, sowie Kriegsberichte, die Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg, Gedichte und Erzählwerke heran. Es wird ein nuanciertes Bild der Sachlage präsentiert, wie Fontanes Ausstellungsberichte aus England und Berlin, Buchbesprechungen kunsthistorischer Werke und sein Verkehr in Berliner kulturellen Vereinen von seinem lebhaften Interesse am aktuellen Kunstleben seiner Zeit zeugen.
